Carved Vessels
Each of these one-of-a-kind pieces are
hand-carved, then coated with a black slip. Excess slip is then carefully scraped away, uncovering the insized line and shape. The inside is glazed with a satin white, making the piece suitable for holding water.
Sizes vary from 8” to 12”.
Prices range from $85 to $120.00.

Horsehair Raku
Horsehair Pottery originated in the late 1980’s in the American Southwest when a Acoma potter bent over her kiln and her hair accidentally fell against a pot, leaving a carbon trail on the surface of the clay.  My horsehair pots are made from white stoneware, sprayed with layers of a fine clay slip called terra sigillata.  After bisque firing, I heat the pots to 1300o Fahrenheit in a raku kiln.  Still hot, the pieces are removed and placed into a fiber-lined cage.  I use forceps to apply the horsehair to the hot surface, leaving carbon and smoke trails.
Prices range from $95 to $130.00.
